California Here We Come!
So it’s finally happened – John and I are moving house. Out of the beautiful (but often very hot) Arizona desert back to my native home - the temperate Napa Valley, California.
We are excited, nervous and sad all at the same time, since we love our desert home and are very comfortable here. Believe it or not we have become acclimated to the incredible 115 plus degree summer-time temperatures; and of course the cacti – we are going to miss them. I won’t go into detail about how both of us are drying up like spotted prunes as the dry air and sun are taking their inevitable toll, so we are looking forward to a moister and cooler climate, and certainly are not going to complain about the area.
Except that moving out of state is a BIG job. So we will be on intermittent blog hiatus during the packing, moving, and unpacking. Things should settle down within a few weeks. We hope. As usual when crazy stuff happens: posts will be at a minimum, comment moderation and email will be slower than its usual snail-ish pace, and all social media like Twitter, Google+, and Facebook will all be at a standstill.
I am thinking the worst part of our move will be driving our screaming terrified cat (Ziggy) over 800 miles to our new home. Anyone want a furry grey kitty – he’s very sweet?
By the way we are not actually going to use - Meathead Movers, but we liked the picture.
Our next post will be from California – until then!

Good luck! I'm working on a huge move like that, from CT to AZ! Get me out of this snow!
Good luck, we'll be moving to California later this year I hope!
best of luck with the move
Fingers crossed everything goes well!
Poor Ziggy.
It is very difficult for animals.
I remember when I changed flat within our town it tokk them weeks to aclimate in the new home
Safe travels to you!! Moving is never easy. I hope it goes as smoothly as possible.
Coming from Australia, it was really good to hear you describe some of the sites of the US.

Oh, I adore the Napa Valley...spent some vacation time there.
Also love Arizona, too, which is another favorite vacation spot.
Good luck with the move! I don't envy you that part....
Good Luck with the move. We moved from California (couldn't afford to stay there) to the Dallas Area three years ago.
We have two cockatiels who screamed most of the way. Since they sleep late in the morning, we rose early each day to get some driving in without screaming! We covered their cages and sometimes they would take a nap.

Donna -
Thank you, I think you will like AZ but depending on where you move to in AZ you still may get some snow... even here in the Valley (Phoenix area). Only a powdered sugar dusting and it is beautiful.
Bryce -
Well looks like we will be neighbors then... that's nice! But your moving to Southern CA right? San Diego.. I think you mentioned.
Gary -
Thank you, when I take my first shot of good whiskey in celebration I will think of you.
Edi -
I am a bit worried about Ziggy too... he is such a nervous kitty. We had to get him shots for moving states and all and I have some tranquilizers for him. I am hoping he gets comfortable quickly.
Amanda -
Thank you, me too. Moving is exciting but it really is not fun if you are doing the packing, which we are.
Carolyn -
Thank you, I like to post pictures of our travels which I am a bit behind on. So keep coming by and bug me a little and I will post some more.
Australia - we would love to visit one day. Post some pictures on your blog too - I would enjoy that!
Laurel -
We are going to be almost neighbors, so you will have to let me know when you come up our way. I know of some really great spots!
Carol -
Oh no birds for 1000 of mile - yikes! I hope you like your new home in Texas.
John or I will probably sit in back with him at first. That helps. He is such a basket case kitty. We even had him on anti-depressants for awhile. Yep - Dr. said he was very stressed out - lol.
Congratulations. Best of luck in the move! :-)
San Diego would be awesome, but probably more like Bakersfield (where I'm from) or other central valley places.
People give Bako a hard time (mostly deservedly), but I've learned a couple months of bad weather with 10 months of great weather is way better than the reverse! :D
California! That's so exciting! Best of luck with the move
*Holds out hands*
Welcome back to California! I suppose the desert air would be better for my allergies, but I just can't do it. So now if I visit you guys, it'll be in Napa!?! Sweet!
;)
I hope the move goes easy for you.

Oh! I am so jealous! I'm a California native who was transplanted to Florida and I go back often and never want to come home. Happy travels!
We are in our new home and the house is full of boxes. Now the fun part.. trying to find everything for the next several weeks until the important stuff is unpacked.

Bill -
Thank you, and thanks for commenting! It's good to be back home.
Bryce -
Hmmm...Bakersfield, well then we are closer neighbors.
We stayed there on our way to Napa, during our last visit to California and had some "delish" Mexican food.
About the weather - we get that since a few bad months is not too difficult, but is one of the reasons why we are now back home instead of Scottsdale - aka "hotsdale".
Christa -
Thank you, moving is exciting but not fun. The unpacking beats the packing I think. Should have the boxes gone in about 6 months... lol..
James -
Well thank you for the warm welcome, and Yes it's good to be back home. Please let us know when you're in the area!
Nancy -
I thought you felt like a California "girl". I am not sure how long it will take for me to not feel like I am on vacation and really home again.
Florida is nice! I loved it when we visited a few years back. But I completely understand. Home is home, and their just ain't no substitute.

Thank you all for the wonderful and warm wishes!
Oh yes - Ziggy made it through like a champ and is exploring his new house with gusto. (The meds worked really well.)
Congrats Shellie on the big move. I love Napa Valley and as you are going back home that must be a big plus too!
As for your cat, on the few times I have traveled with a cat I was able to get some Kitty Valium to take the edge off. I would also recommend lining your cat's carrier with towels (in case he is sick or wets due to anxiety -- mine do this every time I take them to the vets). Otherwise maybe some good earplugs are in order?
Good luck with the move!
Oh I see Ziggy made it ok. Great news!
Kim -
Yep kitty tranquilizers where the only way to go with him. He is doing very well and loves his new house.
Sadly my plants did not do as well. I hope they survive!
Thank you for the well wishes.
